The independent Sydney MP’s bill would ban NSW private schools from discriminating against LGBTQ teachers and students, and outlaw gay conversion practices.

A long-touted equality bill that would ban NSW private schools from discriminating against LGBTQ teachers and students and outlaw gay conversion practices will be introduced to parliament this week in a bid to pressure the Labor government to move on the major reforms.

Greenwich has modelled his bill – which his mother urged him to pursue – on reforms delivered in other Labor states including Victoria, which banned gay conversion practices in 2021. “NSW is essentially last in the country when it comes to LGBTIQA+ rights. To change that, this bill amends 20 acts and creates the new prohibition on conversion practices act.”“The law should recognise and protect us, not judge and discriminate against us,” he said.
