A Greenville police officer was shot and killed during a call Monday night.
A Greenville police officer was shot and killed while chasing a suspect on Monday night.According to the Greenville Police Department, Officer Cooper Dawson stopped a vehicle just before 8 p.m. in the 3500 block of Picket Street.The suspect took off running, and Officer Dawson pursued the suspect on foot.Police said while the officer was in a wooded area behind homes, the suspect ambushed him and shot him multiple times.
Officer Dawson sustained gunshot wounds to the leg and side. He died after being airlifted to Medical City Plano."We are heartbroken over the loss of Officer Cooper Dawson, who selflessly put his life on the line to serve and protect our community," said Greenville Police Chief Chris Smith. "We ask that you keep Officer Dawson’s family, our department, and the Greenville community in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
