State energy ministers have unanimously reiterated their opposition to Peter Dutton’s nuclear plans.
Already a subscriber?Energy and Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen says “reports of the death of the green hydrogen industry are greatly exaggerated”, his comments following the decision byWith Mr Forrest’s decision widely regarded as a reality check on the feasibility of producing green hydrogen at commercial rates, Mr Bowen said there was more than $200 billion in the investment pipeline in Australia for the fuel source.
Federal opposition energy spokesman Ted O’Brien did not buy Mr Bowen’s defence of hydrogen and slammed the energy ministers for not committing to the increased use of gas, now that green hydrogen could not be relied on as part of the transition.“Who needs gas, thinks Labor, when we’ll have ample supply of green hydrogen instead? It was Bowen who claimed green hydrogen was at the heart of his net-zero vision,” he said.
“So we can’t sit on their hands and not do anything. But as far as I’m concerned, I’ve been really clear on this for a long while now for people who choose to listen, the challenge is geology and not ideology.” “Ministers for the Commonwealth, states where nuclear reactors have been proposed, and the territories reiterated their opposition to nuclear,” the communiqué said.
