, a café-style Greek concept from chef/owner Mary Cuclis, announced Jan. 17 as the opening of the counter-service restaurant at 4010 Bissonnet. Cuclis, who spent eight years at Pondicheri and Pondicheri Bake Lab + Shop, named her new restaurant for the pronunciation of Crete, the largest of the Greek islands; her family originates from the town of Chania in Crete.
The 900-square-foot restaurant, designed in blue and white tiles, serves a selection of Greek beer and wine, and non-alcoholic beverages including mint lemonade, a Cretan herbal tea, and a Greek almond and cinnamon drink. The take-away selections also include dips, salad dressings, family-style platters, sweets, and house-made breads.
“We crafted the menu with the goal of creating quality dishes for individuals and families who are constantly on-the-go,” Cuclis stated. “We want to provide nourishing meals that are made using seasonal ingredients.
