Country Liberal Senator Jacinta Price says it is “greatly concerning” that Alice Springs locals are saying they feel “desensitised” to the community’s crime crisis.
“That is greatly concerning because when you become desensitised you’ve almost lost hope,” Ms Price said in a media conference on Thursday.
“We want to bring people here because us locals are here for a reason – we love this community, we love the landscape, we love the people in our hometown. “We love the fact there is plenty of opportunity if we are given that opportunity, and we need our Prime Minister to understand that there are needs that are not being met in this town – things are not changing.”

‘Action needs to be now’: Dutton campaigns against Voice in Alice SpringsOpposition Leader Peter Dutton has criticised the Albanese government for not addressing “the urgency of what is happening” in Alice Springs, saying the Voice to Parliament will take too long and “action needs to be now”. “It needs to be addressed now - even if the Voice vote takes place in October, the Prime Minister is proposing six months of consultation after the vote takes place, so out to the middle of next year, before they’ll even have a design of what the Voice looks like,” Mr Dutton said during a media conference on Wednesday. “If you aren’t out there and you aren't listening to what people are saying, then it’s very hard to find the solutions.”
