Rochester, N.Y.— Propelling an environment of equitable economic growth and empowerment. That was the message Thursday at theinaugural MWBE Awards. The award

He's expected to announce funding to replace lead pipes.The Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce Awards held its inaugural MWBE Awards celebration Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center. “These are families who have put their life savings on the line to create this business here," said Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Bob Duffy .
More than 450 business and community leaders attended the event, celebrating this year’s honorees and newly certified MWBEs of Monroe County — including 13WHAM's Karen Edwards, who acted as emcee for the event. "They are almost all small businesses," Duffy said. "They bring so much vitality, economic vitality, jobs."
50 businesses were honored at the ceremony. Rochester Specialty Contractors took the top spot, with 360 imaging technology provider Circle Optics, Inc., and farm-to-table catering company Farmhouse Table, LLC rounding out the top three."You can't undo all the inequities and barriers of the past, but you can create the future," Duffy said. "And you can create opportunities to help, help grow these businesses.
The application process for the 2025 Greater Rochester Chamber MWBE Awards will begin in November and will be open through February.
