The days of relying on a taxi home after midnight are over for 135,000 people
Two services — the V1 and 36 — will run throughout the night from Sunday , as part of a year-long pilot. It’s the first time a publicly-operated night bus service will run in the city region since the mayor took control of buses last year.
That means University of Salford students will be able to get home more safely than walking back to their digs. Crucially, the move also provides a cheaper alternative for the thousands of hospitality staff who work into the early hours, who previously relied on taxis. Speaking to the LDRS, he added: “When I was appointed in 2018, one of the first things I did was hold a listening exercise with employees in the night-time economy.
Although only two routes are in the Bee Network’s night bus trial, the ambition is to develop a ‘network’ of services across Greater Manchester, according to Transport Commissioner Vernon Everitt. And that network will grow quickly in the new year, he said.
