Quinn Woidke, named Greater Cleveland’s 2024 Male High School Athlete of the Year, led St. Ignatius to a 68-51 win over rival St. Edward. Woidke scored nine of his team’s 16 points during a decisive third-quarter run.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — It was only fitting that Quinn Woidke led his team to victory the day after he was named Greater Cleveland’s 2024 Male High School Athlete of the Year.

The Eagles were indeed rattled, as Woidke and 6-10 senior Damon Friery each splashed 3-pointers right out of the timeout, putting The Wildcats up 40-17. The Eagles answered with a bucket of their own, but then Woidke took a heat-check triple from the logo and nailed it. It was his fourth 3-ball of the quarter, and the packed-out Sullivan Gym erupted.

Woidke finished the game with 16 points, while Friery led the team in scoring with 22. For both players, and for the team as a whole, much of their success came in the second half, when the Wildcats started to get hot. Joyce said the second-half tempo change began with a fast start right out of halftime.

While the Eagles ultimately caved under the Wildcat’s dominant third-quarter performance, they kept things close in the first half. The first two quarters were tough and physical, and the intense nature of the game was characterized by the two schools’ student sections going back and forth, shouting “hit the weight room!” at each other.

However, the Eagles 3-point shooting kept them close, at least initially. They made three deep balls in the first half to the Wildcats’ zero. Over the course of the game, shooting from deep was the Eagles’ bright spot, as the team finished the game 9 of 14 from deep. Six-foot junior JT Kelsheimer, who finished with 18 points, and 6-4 junior Bryan Vlosich, who scored 13, each had three 3-balls to their name.

'Uncontrollable Urge,' originally featured on Devo's debut album, became the theme song for MTV's popular show 'Ridiculousness.' The enduring success of the show has turned the song into Mothersbaugh's biggest money maker, generating an estimated $1 million in royalties annually. This ironic twist is particularly satisfying for Mothersbaugh and his wife, as Devo's early videos met with resistance from MTV.
