‘Great value’: Why Dragons pounced as Flanagans become NRL’s latest father-son combo
It’s a handy signing for the Dragons who have lost playmaker Jayden Sullivan to the Wests Tigers, while there are no guarantees that skipper Ben Hunt will be there next year as he continues to be linked with a return to Queensland.
“Kyle brings great value to our squad in a number of positions,” Dragons general manager of football Ben Haran said.“We look forward to him joining the club in November.” Flanagan has played 79 first grade games at halfback, five-eighth and hooker and provides plenty of options for the new coach. Both Shane and Kyle were at Cronulla in 2018 but this will be the first time they team up as a duo in first grade.
They become the NRL’s latest father-son combination, with Ivan and Nathan Cleary enjoying great success at Penrith and Brad Arthur coaching his son Jakob at Parramatta before the player’s recent move to Manly.
