We chat with GreaseRiseofthePinkLadies stars Jason Schmidt, Madison Thompson & Shanel Bailey (_SimplyShanel) about entering the world of Rydell High as Buddy, Susan & Hazel respectively:
Paramount+ is set to expand a beloved franchise with Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, a 10-episode musical series that gives viewers a new glimpse into the Rydell High of 1978’s Grease and 1982’s Grease 2. Set four years before the events of Grease, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies tells the story of how the eponymous students rose to notoriety before the arrival of Grease’s Rizzo, Frenchy, Jan, and Marty.
Jason Schmidt: Honestly, I don't think it took me very long. I think that was kind of the job of playing a character who's a little bit more difficult like that. Right away, [it's like], "Okay, how do I connect to them in a way [where] I can be on their side in a certain way, so I can play it as believably and as three-dimensionally as possible?"
Shanel, you've done The Book of Mormon on Broadway; I know you've done theater. Was it difficult for you to transition your theater acting style into being in front of a camera on TV?
