Sean Dyche said Demarai Gray is not likely to be involved against Aston Villa. The winger, one of around a dozen players working on fitness and injury rehab, is the subject of interest from clubs including Fulham.
Sean Dyche said the winger is continuing to work toward match fitness and is not likely to be ready in time for the club’s first away game of the Premier League season. Gray missed the opening fixture against Fulham and did not play in any of the pre-season friendlies following his return from international duty with Jamaica.
Asked by ECHO whether Gray could feature on Sunday, Dyche explained: “He is just coming back, he needs to be fully fit.” The Blues boss was more optimistic about the hopes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who completed his rehabilitation schedule with a run-out in the behind-closed-doors defeat to Manchester United this week. Dyche said the striker is “in the thinking” for the Villa squad.
Vitalii Mykolenko made the bench for the Fulham game but “has still got a bit to do” while Dyche said of academy striker Tom Cannon: “He has only just got fit, he got 45 the other day so we will keep an eye on him and make sure that he is well.” Several Championship sides including Preston North End - where Cannon enjoyed a successful loan spell last season - remain keen to acquire the forward for this season and Dyche said another loan remained a possibility. However.
