Collingwood are in “grave danger” of missing out on the AFL finals after the reigning premiers suffered another costly defeat at the MCG. Locked in a tight but somewhat dour battle with Geelong on Friday night, the Magpies fell short when the Cats broke the game open with five out of six goals either side of three-quarter time. The 13.13 to 10.11 win put Geelong back in the mix for a top-four spot after their mid-season stumble but Collingwood’s season is now on the brink.
Magpies star Nick Daicos collected 32 disposals and 11 clearances, while Jamie Elliott made a fine return as he led an injury-hit and undersized attack. Darcy Cameron dominated the ruck from a hitouts perspective , but Sam De Koning had plenty of the ball. Geelong ran hot early as they kicked the first three goals of the game, including two inside the first 40 seconds. But Collingwood settled and responded with four majors on the bounce.
