Police say it happened on Friday evening in Jamaica on 93rd Avenue at 168th Street while the victim was in a marked crosswalk. When police knocked on Kievette Samuels' home on Friday to tell her that her father, Trevor Lloyd Samuels was killed, the news pierced through her like the blistering cold.
"So when I heard it was head trauma, I was mad because I'm like, this person hit my dad, had him died with one of the best brains anybody could want to, you know, have," she said, "I ran downstairs screaming - I haven't slept. My body is tired, I'm hungry, I don't want to eat." The 68-year-old man suffered a head injury and was rushed to Jamaica Hospital where he died. Investigators say the man who hit him, Yunior Rodriguez, 26, was also injured and stayed at the scene. He was taken to Queens Hospital where he was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.The good memories keeps the family going. Loved ones say he moved here from Jamaica several years ago and most recently worked as a home health aide. "He was a correctional officer back home for like, almost 40 years - 37 years. So he has story for days," she added.Samuels' five children and five grandchildren are now trying to find a way to forgive as they try to heal this holiday season.
