A swimmer who made history as the first transgender athlete to compete on an NCAA Division I Men's team, is now one of the Grand Marshals of this year's Pride March in New York City.
The 26-year-old is the first openly transgender Division I swimmer to compete as a man.
"I feel a lot of power in my identity and being open about my identity as a queer, Korean American, mixed-race transgender swimmer," Bailar said.The NYC Pride March broadcast special, co-hosted by Angelica Ross along with WABC's Ken Rosato, Lauren Glassberg and Sam Champion, will return for its sixth consecutive year on ABC 7 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm ET on Sunday, June 26 as well on abc7NY.
"I think the legislation and massive amount of anti-trans and anti-queer legislation is a result of our added and increased visibility and increased power," Bailar said.
