The warning comes as a Thanksgiving winter storm is due to hit the area. On Tuesday, the park said its East Entrance Station and Desert View Drive—also known as East Rim Drive—on the South Rim would close at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. They will remain closed until further notice. The Arizona Department of Transportation meanwhile closed State Route 67 on Tuesday. The 43-mile-long highway connects Jacob Lake and the North Rim of Grand Canyon.
The national park's South Rim can be accessed via the South Entrance Station from SR 64. Visitors who require the latest road conditions can call 511, or visiting ADOT's Arizona Traveler Information Site at:The Grand Canyon's North Rim is closed to vehicles each year between December 1 and May 15— or before depending on the weather.
