The new categories include one for Asian pop music performances, another for contemporary R&B performances, a third for singles and tracks that cannot be intermingled with present forms of pop music, a fourth for albums of traditional folk recordings, and a fifth for the achievement of songwriters for newly written Latin songs. The updates also include the addition of Ballot Plus, an opt-in alternative to the 10/3 voting structure, and refined category description language and guidelines.
Additionally, the threshold of new recordings required on an eligible album is lowered from 75% to 66%, and internet-only releases are eligible in certain categories. Songwriters and composers of new material on the winning albums in most genre album categories will now receive Grammy statuettes and achievement certificates in parity with producers and engineers
