The USDA said Wednesday it would be unable to publish weekly export sales data this week and next
said: “Since the system relies on data submissions by exporters, FAS is working closely with individual exporters to ensure that past, current, and future export sales data are accurate. Our staff will continue to conduct outreach and provide support to both data reporters and data users in anticipation of the relaunch of the new system.”
Now, U.S. grain traders and analysts find themselves operating in the dark as the USDA weekly export reporting system remains offline. Mr. Smith tracks the weekly changes to grain export sales, which the USDA usually posts at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time on Thursday. Having no system to use makes evaluating demand for U.S. grains by foreign buyers such as China more difficult, although traders do have tricks to approximate what the USDA data might look like.
The marketing year for U.S. corn and soybeans begins Sept. 1, making this week’s report the last to show sales through the 2021/22 marketing year, or crops that were grown in spring 2021. The new marketing year for wheat began in June.
