While Sean Astin ultimately landed the role of Samwise Gamgee, Irish comedian Graham Norton revealed he auditioned for the part in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Norton, known for his comedic talk show, admitted the audition was 'awful!' and could have drastically changed the tone of the beloved character and the franchise.

When fans think of The Lord of the Rings, a story rooted in themes of loyalty, courage, and friendship, Sean Astin’s heartwarming portrayal of Samwise Gamgee immediately comes to mind.
