The Aberdeen midfielder has already played in the Europa League with the Dons under Derek McInnes
It has been years in the making and captain Graeme Shinnie is determined to help Aberdeen carve out a mark in the group stages of European football.
“When I was here last time it was something I was desperate to do but it was very difficult because back then there were four qualifiers. It is an exciting challenge for everyone and one that I am looking forward to.” Shinnie in his first spell at the club helped Derek McInnes’ side to some big results but they were never able to get to a Euro play-off round. He recalled: “I felt like we should have won the tie against the Kazakhstan side [Kairat Almaty]. We lost 2-1 over there. We felt with them travelling all the way over here we would have a good chance.
