A 17-year-old Grade 11 student died and her brother was injured after they were struck by a falling rock while riding a motorcycle in Monamon Sur here on Friday, Jan. 6.

BAUKO, Mountain Province – The Bauko Municipal Police Station said Amanda and her brother Rafael, 16, a Grade 10 student, were on their way home to Barangay Sadsadan here around 5:30 p.m. when a large rock fell from the Mount Data and struck her helmet and her sibling in the left leg.

Amanda lost control of the motorcycle and crashed. They were taken to a hospital here where she was declared dead due to traumatic brain injury secondary to motor vehicle accident. Rafael is being treated in the hospital for multiple injuries. The freak accident was attributed to incessant rain in the area which loosened rocks from the mountain. Police advised motorists to be on alert for falling rocks, particularly during inclement weather.
