Gracie Abrams' third studio album showcases her growth as a songwriter, featuring extensive collaboration with Aaron Dessner of The National and contributions from Justin Vernon, Marcus Mumford, and her boyfriend Paul Mescal. The 16-track record explores nuanced emotional landscapes with a newfound empathy.
The 26-year-old singer has released her third full-length studio album, a 16-track project that once again sees her collaborating closely with The National's Aaron Dessner.
Dessner, alongside his twin brother Bryce, contributed significantly to the writing and production, earning a cowriting credit on 14 of the album's 16 tracks. The second single, "Look At My Life," was coproduced by frequent Olivia Rodrigo collaborator Dan Nigro and carries a fretful, introspective tone. Guest appearances include Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford on Abrams's favorite track, "What If It's Right? ," and actor Paul Mescal, Abrams's boyfriend, who cowrote "Imaginary Friend.
" Bon Iver's Justin Vernon coproduced "Hit the Wall" and also cowrote, coproduced, and provided additional vocals on "Broke My Heart. " Abrams has described the album as her favorite music she's ever made, feeling it authentically captures her current state. She approached the songwriting with a new sense of empathy, aiming to explore conflict and pain without blame, acknowledging past carelessness in how her songs might affect their subjects.
The album delves into complex relationships, friendships, and breakups, reflecting a more nuanced and careful perspective
