THE government is looking at a progressive wage structure in Malaysia, with discussions and engagements with stakeholders already in motion, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said. He said this is among the policies his ministry is studying, which is in line with the 12th Malaysia Plan’s aim that the ratio of wage and remuneration from the revenue given to workers be enhanced to 40% from the current 36%.
“We will bring the discussions to the appropriate government forums at a date to be fixed later,” he told a media conference after officiating at the “UK-Malaysia Clean Growth Handbook” in Kuala Lumpur today. Rafizi said the government wants to ensure the policy framework will be sustainable and can be implemented well, with both employees and employers benefitting. – Bernama, May 9, 2023.
