The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs shared the news on Tuesday, Dec. 23. They say the grants will enable 18 community action agencies to provide emergency assistance to help low-income Alabama residents cover the costs of heating or cooling their homes.
“The cost of heating a home during the coldest parts of winter and cooling it during the hottest parts of summer can pose a challenge for those who are most vulnerable and have extremely limited incomes,” Ivey said. “These grants will ensure that help is available to those who need it most during extreme weather.” ADECA says the state’s community action agencies manage the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program at the local level and receive applications from individuals seeking assistance. According to ADECA, their office is administrating the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The funding announced by Ivey includes both the regular LIHEAP allocations, plus supplemental funding through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. “This program is meant to help people who have the lowest income and those who are most vulnerable, including the elderly, people with disabilities and young children. ADECA stands with Gov. Ivey in supporting Alabamians who are in need of this emergency assistance.”Bullock, Butler, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, Lowndes and Pike CountiesCullman, Lawrence, Marion, Morgan and Winston CountiesHere’s what stores are open, and which ones are closed, on ChristmasAlabama prepares for Rose Bowl after victory over Oklahoma
