Late Thursday, Governor Mike Dunleavy vetoed the historic education package that swept both the House and Senate.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The bipartisan bill passed 38-2 in the House and 18-1 in the Senate but is 0-1 on the Governor’s desk.

The bill did not comprise of his educational priorities, a plan for an increase in charter schools in Alaska and a proposed three-year teacher bonuses program. SB 140 garnered enough bipartisan support that lawmakers were prepared to call a session Monday to override the veto. To override Dunleavy’s veto, two-thirds of legislators will have to be in support of the bill; however, despite initial support, the veto has created tonal discrepancies within legislation.
