City is among 17 communities statewide to share $192 million for efforts to remove encampments from public places

Oceanside's programs to find shelter for the homeless will get a $11.4 million boost from a round of statewide grants that Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Thursday. The money will be used to provide a range of services focused on finding interim and permanent homes for people camped along state right-of-way corridors such as Route 78, officials said. Oceanside Mayor Esther Sanchez called the announcement 'a pivotal moment' in the city's efforts to reduce homelessness.

Awards totaling $192 million in Encampment Resolution Fund grants, which are administered by the California Interagency Council on Homelessness, will go to 20 programs in 17 communities statewide. “All 17 communities had strong proposals that will help people transition from encampments and onto pathways to housing,” said Cal ICH Executive Officer Meghan Marshall.
