The Albanese government has announced a suite of reforms to the aged care sector in a move that will save the budget more than $13-14 billion over 10 years.

The Albanese government has announced a series of aged care reforms requiring greater contributions from wealthy Australians after reaching a deal with the Coalition.

"We will deliver historic aged care reforms to ensure the viability and quality of our aged care system," Mr Albanese said. The Prime Minister confirmed $5.6 billion would be invested in a reform package and $4.3 billion would be invested in support at home, starting from July 1, 2025. Earlier on Thursday, Sky News revealed the deal was imminent after Coalition sources said they had agreed to retirees paying more towards their aged care.
