As the government announced the launch of an eight-week consultation on vaping, in a bid to create a ‘smokefree generation’, a number of proposals have been laid out to help crack down on the habit. The consultation will last eight weeks starting from Thursday and is open to people of all ages to share their views.
Making sure vape flavours don’t target children The government could look at banning certain flavours of vapes, which they believe are aimed to entice children, such as fruity ones. A statement reads: “We want to ensure this is done in a way that continues to support adult smokers to switch.” Changing displays of vapes The proposal includes the regulation of point of sale displays in shops. The idea is that vapes would be kept out of sight from children and away from products that appeal to them, such as sweets.
Restrictions on other nicotine products With nicotine being one of the most harmful ingredients in vapes, the government is seeking to look at further restrictions on non-nicotine vapes and other nicotine consumer products such as nicotine pouches.
