“Obviously the polling had been demonstrating the scale of the challenge of winning this referendum campaign,” Mr Butler told Sky News Australia.“And that support … was withdrawn about six months ago after the loss of the New South Wales election and then the Aston by-election all in pretty quick succession at the end of March and beginning of April.
