SAN ANTONIO - This week, the San Antonio Governance Committee will be discussing the potential shutdown of the Airport Transfer Center .
The ATC first opened back in May of 2023, but some council members didn't know about it until several months later. City officials say they opened it to allow migrants with plane tickets a place to stay while waiting for their flights, freeing up any room at the Migrant Resource Center on San Pedro Avenue.“I think it's a step in the right direction. I mentioned it at the end of last year, I don't want us expanding migrant resource centers here in San Antonio,” said Councilman Marc Whyte. “So, the closure of the ATC will bring us down to the one migrant resource center on San Pedro Avenue.” Some city officials say the possible closure of the ATC comes because of fewer migrants coming to San Antonio.Councilman Whyte says there could be a resolution coming soon about whether the migrant resource center should continue to operate in San Antonio.
