Gov. Wolf Friday vetoed a bill barring transgender athletes from competing and another allowing poll watchers to observe election activity in counties where they do not reside.

Wolf said the legislation would further marginalize transgender and nonbinary young people and negatively affect their mental health. “My administration is committed to supporting transgender individuals and ensuring Pennsylvania is an inclusive place for everyone,” Gov. Wolf said. “To the LGBTQ+ community in Pennsylvania and especially to our transgender and nonbinary youth and young people: I see you, I support you, I respect you, and I stand with you.”
Wolf felt otherwise, saying far from ensuring voter integrity or increased access to voting, it would have “undermined the integrity of the voting process and encouraged voter intimidation.”
