A lawmaker says the country can afford to pay loans if funds are ‘dedicated to the right projects'

The Philippines must borrow more funds to beef up its COVID-19 response, a lawmaker said Tuesday.

“The government must borrow some more… because we will put these into good use. Can we afford to pay? Yes, we can afford to pay these if the funds are dedicated to the right projects,” Drilon said in an interview withThe opposition lawmaker cited the government’s infrastructure program as a possible focal point as it “provides employment to our people and prepares our economy.”, Drilon said he would support the move to obtain loans to help shore up the economy amid the COVID-19 crisis.
