The anti-graft court grants the request of the Ombudsman to withdraw petitions pursuing illegally acquired properties and assets of former Major General Carlos Garcia.
MANILA, Philippines – The Sandiganbayan’s Fourth Division accepted a request by the Office of the Ombudsman to withdraw two petitions which sought the forfeiture of ill-gotten wealth of former Armed Forces of the Philippines comptroller Major General Carlos Garcia, his wife, and their three sons.
Civil Case No. 0193, which was filed on October 27, 2004, was going after the allegedly unlawfully acquired properties amounting to P143.05 million. On the other hand, Civil Case No. 0196, filed on July 5, 2005, was seeking forfeiture of the Garcia family’s assets totaling P202.006 million. What made the petition to withdraw peculiar was that previously the Ombudsman said the two cases were seeking different sets of properties of the Garcia family.
