News of ex-Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder’s conviction on Thursday brought “no comments” or silence from some of the state’s top Republican leaders, including Gov. Mike DeWine, Senate President Matt Huffman and House Speaker Jason Stephens.

COLUMBUS, Ohio—

However, other Republicans, including Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, said they hoped the guilty pleas handed down to Householder and lobbyist/ex-Ohio GOP Chair Matt Borges would serve as a warning to other public officials not to engage in corruption. Democrats, meanwhile, were quick to pounce on the convictions of the two Republicans, saying more work still needs to be done to root out corruption in Ohio politics.
