Students at Mulkey Elementary lined the school’s front entrance, anticipating the arrival of the governor’s entourage.
Gov. Kay Ivey is embarking on her Back to School Tour, where she visits and talks with schools across the state.GENEVA, Ala. - It’s not every day that the Governor of Alabama comes walking into your school’s front doors.Before politics, Governor Kay Ivey herself once sat at desks similar to ones that Mulkey students sit in today.
“A student just like you, I went to an Alabama public school and I sat at a desk with big dreams, ready to learn,” she recalls. Now, at 79 years old, Kay Ivey is embarking on her Back to School Tour, where she visits and talks with schools across the state. The tour features different learning institutions including public schools, Turnaround schools, private schools, and charter schools.“Your dedication to your studies now, your kindness to those around you, and your commitment to learning now, will shape Alabama,” said Ivey.That funding enables schools to expand programs, improve facilities, and enhance the general school experience for students.
This is the first time Governor Kay Ivey has visited Mulkey Elementary, and, according to Superintendent Ron Snell, is the first time any sitting governor has been to the school.and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning.
