Gov. Kathy Hochul sat down with Eyewitness News to talk about the executive order pausing the construction of large-scale AI data centers, plus a number of other topics.
The governor went one-on-one with Eyewitness News anchor Joe Torres. The noise they generate and the resources they use have caused an uproar in many communities across the nation.
During the one-year moratorium, the state will establish a regulatory framework, and conduct environmental impact assessments to evaluate energy demand, water use, water quality and air quality.
"We're not hostile to business, but we also know that I can't compromise the future of New Yorkers and our ability to have the power we need, the water we need and also the businesses that will create jobs - I want to make sure that there's enough for them," she said.impacting New York City, and the economic benefits of the FIFA World Cup. She also applauded the efforts of the city and the NYPD to secure big events this summer like America 250, the NBA Finals and Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding, which was held at Madison Square Garden.
Finally, she offered her thoughts on the ICE-involved shooting in Maine, and President Donald Trump's immigration enforcement policies.
