Kathy Hochul is once again stamping her feet, accusing federal immigration authorities of overreach for allegedly planning to expand detention facilities in upstate New York.on a warehouse in the Hudson Valley near Newburgh, as well as plans to expand detention capacity at federal facilities in Rochester and Batavia.
“New Yorkers, like all Americans, deserve honest answers about what their federal government is doing in their communities. And I demand your department provide that transparency,” Hochul asserts in the letter. The vacant warehouse located at 800 Corporate Boulevard in the Town of Newburgh on July 7, 2026, where DHS has sought to lease the property for use as an ICE facility.

In addition to offices, plans include adding an ICE detention center in a wing that once housed a post office. Hochul stopped short of accusing ICE of violating any of those policies and didn’t immediately respond to The Post when asked if she would use the new law to try and rebuke the feds, like she and state Attorney General Letitia James did to try and force immigration officers not to wear masks while conducting enforcement operations via a lawsuit earlier this month.
A spokesperson for ICE and DHS also didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on Hochul’s letter, which was first reported by Politico Monday morning.
