WASHINGTON — Border crossings fell significantly after Title 42 ended last week, but Gov. Greg Abbott is still asking other governors to send troops to Texas as he warns of a"flood of illegal border activity invited by the Biden Administration.

President Joe Biden last week warned it would be"chaotic for a while" after the end of the The administration has said the situation remains"very fluid," but it is hopeful that messaging about harsher consequences for those who cross the border illegally, including a presumption of ineligibility for asylum, is having an effect. Biden also sent 1,500 active-duty troops to the border and surged resources to screen migrants, including 1,400 Department of Homeland Security personnel and 1,000 processing coordinators.
