“Washington is a welcoming community that values immigrants’ and refugees’ contributions to our economy and our cultural fabric,” Ferguson said.

Gov. Bob Ferguson on Monday signed an executive order reaffirming Washington state’s commitment to protecting the rights and privacy of immigrant communities, while establishing a new Immigration Sub-Cabinet to coordinate state efforts.

Executive Order 25-09 directs all state agencies to review how they collect, share, and retain data to ensure the safety and privacy of immigrant residents, aligning with the state’s legal standards and values.“Washington is a welcoming community that values immigrants’ and refugees’ contributions to our economy and our cultural fabric,” Ferguson said in a statement. “While the federal government engages in cruel attacks on immigrant communities, we are taking action to protect the rights and interests of all Washingtonians.” The newly created Immigration Sub-Cabinet will be jointly led by the Governor’s Office, the Office of Financial Management, and the state Office of Equity. It will consist of representatives from all cabinet-level agencies and will meet regularly to address a range of immigration-related issues, including data privacy, access to health care, and implementation of the bipartisan Keep Washington Working Act.Family Separation Rapid Response TeamIn addition to interagency coordination, the sub-cabinet will engage with community stakeholders and state commissions to better reflect the needs and concerns of immigrant communities. Quarterly reports with policy recommendations will be submitted to the governor.
