Moreno questioned Noem about the Biden administration's record on immigration, specifically focusing on the number of individuals on the terror watch list, murderers, rapists, and those with criminal convictions allowed into the country.
Moreno referenced the Laken Riley Act, currently being debated in the Senate to prevent crimes like the murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, who was killed by an illegal immigrant. He asked Noem, 'Just to be clear, Laken Riley would be alive today if you had been the secretary of Homeland Security?' Noem responded, 'Senator, my hope is that that would be true, yes'. Moreno continued his line of questioning, comparing Noem's potential policies to those of current DHS Secretary Mayorkas. He asked about the number of individuals admitted into the country from the terror watch list, murderers, rapists, and those with criminal convictions, seeking assurances that Noem would prioritize national security under her leadership. Noem pledged to work diligently to prevent any individuals on the terror watch list, murderers, rapists, or those with criminal convictions from entering the United States. She also stated that she would end the practice of flying migrants into the country on jets and housing them in luxury hotels.
