Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen meets with deported man Kilmar Abrego Garcia on April 17, 2025, after the man was deported in error and imprisoned in El Salvador . Several Republican lawmakers on Friday expressed outrage with Sen.
Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., after he traveled to El Salvador to meet with a man deported by the Trump Administration. Sen. Van Hollen said he made contact with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was deported over accusations he was a member of a criminal gang. The senator had repeatedly called for Trump to return the man, arguing the president had presented no evidence to support these claims.“Find someone who looks at you the way Democrat senators look at illegal alien MS-13 gang members” he jeered via X.“This is a sitting U.S. Senator consoling an MS-13 gang member,” he wrote. “Traitorous.”“Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland looked like a fool yesterday standing in El Salvador begging for attention from the Fake News Media, or anyone,” he wrote. “GRANDSTANDER!!!” The White House on Wednesday also used its Instagram profile to troll the senator by inviting him to collaborate on a post about Rachel Morin, a woman who was attacked by an MS-13 gang member from El Salvador. “Hey @ChrisVanHollen,” it wrote. “We sent you a collab request on Instagram to help tell your constituent Rachel Morin’s story—raped and murdered by an MS-13 alien from El Salvador in your state. Just tap accept.”Jackson Walker on X at @_jlwalker_ for the latest trending national news. Have a news tip? Send it to jacwalker@sbgtv.com.
