House Speaker Kevin McCarthy recently barred two other Democrats from sitting on the Intelligence Committee.
McCarthy, as speaker, can choose who serves on the Intelligence Committee because it is a"select" committee; Swalwell and Schiff are not expected to lose other, non-select committee roles.
McCarthy recently followed through with his promise, blocking the pair's efforts to join the Intelligence Committee. However, McCarthy faces a more difficult task in removing Omar from her committee—removing a member from a committee on which they already sit requires a House vote., House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said the GOP has"no intention" of letting the three Democrats serve on committees that deal with the nation's secrets.
Democrat Ilhan Omar, pictured above, must face a vote to retain her seat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Some Republicans, including Representatives Victoria Spartz and Nancy Mace, have expressed hesitancy at voting her off the committee.
