Google is providing a $1 million grant to support the Texas Energy Poverty Research Institute (TEPRI) in building energy resilience hubs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The project aims to create backup renewable power for two affordable multitenant facilities, ensuring residents have access to electricity and heat during extreme weather events. The hubs will utilize solar power with battery storage, benefiting over 500 residents and reducing monthly operating electricity costs. Savings will be reinvested into expanding social services for residents.
The technology giant on Thursday announced a $1 million contribution, designed to bolster an effort by the Texas Energy Poverty Research Institute to build energy resilience hubs in the D-FW area.

The electric bill savings will be used to expand social services for residents, such as free after school and summer child care, nutrition programs and access to medical care.as extreme weather events buffet all 50 states, especially as artificial intelligence data center needs take center stage.
“Effective collaborations like this will be the linchpin to providing scalable solutions for reduced electricity costs, power outage support and needed services to our neighbors,” said Margo Weisz, executive director, TEPRI. “Strengthening local infrastructure by bringing the newest energy technologies to high need communities ushers in a more resilient, sustainable and robust energy future for Texas.”
