The cloud division at Google recently assumed its role as a verifier on the cross-chain messaging protocol LayerZero network.
"Google Cloud's participation as an oracle on the LayerZero network offers more options for users to select an oracle to relay messages from one chain to another," a Google Cloud spokesperson The Block.
Within LayerZero's architecture, performing the job of an oracle involves transferring a portion of the message data from one chain and storing it in another. Each oracle on LayerZero is a unique network that approves or vetoes cross-chain messages based on their validation logic. Oracle providers get paid for their services.
With the addition of Google Cloud, users of LayerZero will continue to have the option to select which oracles they want to rely on in the LayerZero network, whether that's Google Cloud or another provider. "The more validators the more options users have and the more resiliency the network has by reducing reliance on any single oracle provider," Google Cloud said., Google Cloud is listed as the default oracle configuration for LayerZero messaging, but it's possible to integrate other oracles as well, including TSS and Chainlink.
"Our role is to provide secure infrastructure to the [LayerZero] network, but we won't be reviewing the software or the smart contracts," the firm added."In many ways, this is similar to the validators we operate on networks alongside other validators," the spokesperson said.with multiple crypto teams including Aptos, BNB Chain, Hedera, Tezos, Near, and others, to provide cloud and blockchain infrastructure.

Opening arguments in US v. Google just ended! Only ten weeks left to go.I’ve just finished lunch after the Department of Justice, a group of state attorneys general, and Google made their opening arguments in today’s antitrust trial. The Department of Justice wants Judge Amit Mehta to focus on “what Google did” — which, in its evaluation, is sign a bunch of restrictive Google Search exclusivity agreements with Apple, Mozilla, and Android manufacturers. Google is arguing that the whole trial is a gift to Microsoft, which (again, in its evaluation) has dismally failed to compete with Google on Search. There’s no public feed after opening statements, but I’ll be back in court soon to watch the Department of Justice question Google’s chief economist Hal Varian about default search settings. Oh, and there’s a guy in a fake mustache and monocle wandering the halls.
