U.S. Government warns federal employees to update by October 14.

for its more than 2 billion users, with three high-severity vulnerabilities disclosed and fixed. Users are urged to check the update has downloaded to their browsers, and then restart to install. This latest update was released the same day as the U.

S. cyber defense agency warned federal staff to either update Chrome by October 14 “or discontinue use of the product” if they cannot. Whilemandate applies just to federal agencies, its aim is “to help every organization better manage vulnerabilities and keep pace with threat activity.”for all Chrome users last week, as it warned "an exploit for CVE-2025-10585 exists in the wild.” That vulnerability affected Chrome’s V8 Java engine, and it’s the same for the three new security risks. All users need to ensure they’re using the latest version of Chrome — 140.0.7339.207/.208 — especially given last week’s zero day. While the company withholds “bug details and links” until “a majority of users are updated with a fix,” it’s a risk that attacks will widen while the flaw remains unpatched.warning their users to ditch Google’s browser for Edge or Safari instead. Windows and iPhone users are being told that Chrome puts their devices and data at unnecessary risk. Chrome gets an unnecessarily bad rap when it comes to security, and its team’s proven track record in rushing out fixes is excellent. It’s worth noting that two of this week’s high-severity flaws were discovered by Google’s own in-house AI bug hunting. What’s less comforting is the privacy implications of Chrome versus its competition when it comes to tracking protections. And while Microsoft focuses mainly on security in pushing Edge, Apple unsurprisingly takes more of a privacy line with Safari.Regardless of how little or how often you use Chrome, and regardless of the platforms on which you run the world’s most popular browser, make sure you’re updated.
