OpenAI and Google’s latest AI models have made history at the IMO 2025, outperforming top human contestants and specialized systems alike.
Artificial intelligence models developed by Google ’s DeepMind team and OpenAI soaked themselves in a new form of glory recently. They have managed to beat some of the brightest high-school minds at mathematics, achieving a gold medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad 2025.The IMO 2025 is regarded as one of the toughest competitions for high schoolers worldwide to prove their mettle with numbers and equations.
Conversely, Google waited for the competition’s official results before declaring this feat via a blog post on Monday this week.The interesting fact is, OpenAI declared their result on the weekend, before the official results were revealed by IMO. What makes the situation awkward is that IMO had requested AI companies to avoid announcing any form of results before the closure of the competition on Monday.Google took a sly dig at OpenAI’s rather ‘mischievous’ act.
