Citizens in Clearwater, Florida, pulled a man from a burning vehicle before first responders arrived. One of the rescuers described the harrowing scene and the quick actions taken to save the man's life. The man was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Officials credited the good Samaritans with preventing a potential tragedy.

One of the good Samaritans, David Calderon, said that he was riding his motorcycle to work when he came across the scene. He initially thought others at the scene were just trying to put out the fire before realizing there was someone trapped inside the vehicle.

“I didn’t really think about it. I just reacted,” Calderon told WFLA. “I was really scared," he added."The flames were really hot. The flames are coming out from under the car and inside the car."After the man was saved, footage showed other citizens using fire extinguishers on the burning vehicle before first responders arrived. "Thank you to the hero citizens who helped save a man’s life after he was unable to get out of his burning car this afternoon," Clearwater Fire and Rescue said in a Facebook post."And thanks to our crew members who responded to help the man get medical care and ensure the car didn’t explode from the flames enveloping it." The man was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution on Friday, according to WFLA. And the good Samaritans were credited with preventing a potential tragedy. “I’d say had they not gotten involved, we likely would have a very different story with a possibly tragic ending,” said Rob Shaw, public information officer with the city of Clearwater, via WFLA. Officials did not immediately respond Monday to NBC's request for an update on both the man's condition and the investigation into what caused the fire.
