The 82nd Golden Globe Awards seek to regain their former glory with comedian Nikki Glaser at the helm. Can they recapture the magic?
After a tumultuous period that saw the disbanding of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Golden Globes appear to be back on track. The 82nd annual ceremony, airing Sunday at 8 p.m. EST on CBS and Paramount+ with Showtime, aims to recapture the lighthearted energy of past years with comedian Nikki Glaser as the host.
While last year's comeback, hosted by Jo Koy, received mixed reviews, it did deliver a ratings boost to around 10 million viewers, prompting CBS to extend its broadcast contract for five more years. This year's show boasts a star-studded lineup of nominees, including Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig, Denzel Washington, Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Selena Gomez. Jacques Audiard's Netflix musical 'Emilia Pérez' leads the pack with 10 nominations, followed by Brady Corbet's 'The Brutalist' with seven and Edward Berger's 'Conclave' with six. Among the top-nominated series are 'The Bear,' 'Shogun,' and 'Only Murders in the Building.
