'Golden Bachelorette' national treasure Charles Ling talks to EW about coming to America with $20 in his pocket, his proudest moment from the show, and what he thinks about being the next Golden Bachelor.
The 66-year-old retired financial analyst from Pennsylvania became an instant fan favorite with his gentle spirit, sense of humor, and overall aura of positivity. We cheered when Charles helped the blue team win a kickball game on the group date — even though he'd never played before! We cried when Charlessix years ago. And we sobbed when Golden Bachelorette Joan Vassos, 61, gave him a hug goodbye, saying,"You changed my life.
I would say it has changed a lot. Before the program, I was kind of in a mood of being sad, also being not sure what to do, and also worried what my family or friends would think of me if I move in that direction. However, during the program, when I had a lot of conversations with Joan and other people in our group, we all feel like it's okay to be sad, but also it's okay to get out of your boundary and move on with your life. We deserve to seek our happiness ourselves.
I think it would be a shock to them. I'm not good dancer, but once I'm there in that auditorium, it seems like I didn't have other choice but to participate. I try my best. I saw some parts of the dance, but not the entire yet. I doubt even I pass the exam if you gave me a dancing exam. But I tried and I enjoyed myself.Not yet. Yeah, I think they were nervous . Before, I mentioned the Chippendale dance to them. They said, "Oh, Dad. Oh, boy." [That was many years ago.
