A holiday donation tin from a Salvation Army location in Phoenix collected a gold coin worth more than $1,000 from a Good Samaritan.
The Salvation Army said that one Good Samaritan dropped a half-ounce gold American Eagle coin in a donation kettle at its Ray & Joan Kroc Center location in Phoenix .The face value of the coin is $25 but an officer with the Salvation Army said it was appraised for $1,310."We witness extraordinary acts of kindness and giving year-round, and this incredible donation is certainly no exception," said Captain Dustin Rowe, Kroc Center Corps Officer.
"The coin came attached with a letter that said, "May this gold help the people in need during the Christmas season. Bless you all."Donations to the Salvation army can be written off as a state tax credit. The maximum donation for a single person is $470 and for married couples it is $938.84 cents out of every dollar are used to support local programs and services.
