The Councillor Conduct Tribunal finds Tom Tate used ratepayer funds for two annual NRL club memberships and was reimbursed for donations in breach of the City of Gold Coast's expenses policy.
abc.net.au/news/council-conduct-tribunal-city-of-gold-coast-tom-tate-misconduct/102869208City of Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate charged ratepayers for two annual Titans Football Club memberships more than five years ago, the council watchdog in Queensland has found.
Cr Tate was ordered to make a public admission of misconduct at a council meeting within 60 days of the findings. "These were personal memberships, purchased by respondent for the benefit of respondent [or such persons as he might exclusively extend such benefits]. Cr Tate in May 2016 also made a $5,000 donation to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital and later that year acquitted the money as an "incidental expense".According to the decision documents, he purchased audiovisual cables to the value of $774 and headphones that cost $534.92.
Cr Tate was also accused of acting improperly by purchasing 10 seats for the Mayoress Charity Foundation Annual Ball in 2016 and 2017 but the tribunal did not substantiate allegations of misconduct and found this was not a breach of the policy.
